Question climate control selector knob not working

Just bought a 1994 jgc limited 5.2 v8 that needs a lot of work but I only paid $2000 for it so I'm happy for now. I have a whole laundry list of thing to fix but chose to start on the cliamte control selector knob first since winter is on the way. The problem is no matter which setting the selector is set to it always blows from the face vents. It will change temperature from cool to warm; guess I need to mention that the A/C is not working either. I put the cliamte control in diagnostic mode and it kicked out a fault code 21 "Door travel range too small" Based on the fact that it does change from cool to warm I'm thinking that its not the blend door. Any help/suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks for the input but I have searched this forum as well as others and have yet to find the solution for the exact reported problem.

I agree. There is a thread about the same issue but I've read it through and it was only a partial fix.

Re: climate control selector knob not working

I had this problem on my '95 when it was new. The linkage to the mode door kept breaking. After a few replacements (a fairly major, take the dash apart job) they replaced it with a redesigned linkage that has been fine ever since.

Re: climate control selector knob not working

BTW, my 95 manual says that error 21 "Door travel range too low" is definitely the mode door. Blend door would be 23.
