Cool TC Power Window Problems

I have a 2001 TC that I'm experiencing intermittent power window problems on the driver side. The window remains down after using the AUTO down button. After some time, the window can be rolled up a lilted at a time, usually stopping part of the way up.

I have the same problem with same model. A friend had a problem with an older Voyager, had the dealer fix it a few years ago, twice. Once on the driver's side and then on the passengers side. They think it was the motors that were changed, not the switch. Did you try replacing any parts yet? Since it is intermittent, I'm thinking of changing the switch before I take it in. According to Chrysler there has not been a recall for this problem.

Received an email response from Chrysler... They can't even guess at the problem... Bring it in for a diagnostic & repair.

I'm having a similar problem with our 01 Grand Caravan. I took the switch off, but a schematic is needed to diagnose if the switch is working properly. Also curious if Chrysler used relays on these motors.

Thanks for the replies... I have not replaced any parts yet. I did pull the driver side switch panel out, but the switches are an enclosed unit. Looking at the wiring schematics, my first guess is the motor. Now to tackle it myself or let the dealer do it?

All of these minivans use a relay for the motor.Dodge has told me that this is the most common problem. It comes as a unit ready to install in the door. If you can remove the panel, you can D.I.Y.S. You will also find most dealers have this item in stock & of course you know when they do this is a common problem that they won't admit to.

you should be able to repair it yourself.....you can try the relays if you want...most places will not allow you to return electrical parts once you buys them...another thing you can do is to find the twp wires that go to the motor.....use two wires to test the motor.....one to ground and the pother one to 12v.....the window will go in one direction.....reverse the wires and it will travel in the other direction....if it works fine, then i would think its something else.....there is a place in Ca..that sells oem sets for power windows....e-mail me if you need the info....

Installed the new master relay switch in the door last night. Unfortunately, this did not fix the problem. The only thing left is the window motor. And you are right...there are no returns on electrical parts. FYI: the switch was $82.

Has anyone replaced the window motor?

replace the window regulator. It comes as an assembly....These are famous for going bad... Good luck in removing and installing them. The bolts that hold them use torx bit..and there is a trick to removing and installing them because they need to fit into little pockets...It's not that hard... About 15 minutes to R&R

I purchased the Window Regulator for $117.00. You are right it came as an assembly. Removal and access to the torx bolt was surprising easy. Luckily, I own a torx set. One of those sets that I don't use to often but glad I have when I need them.

The trick to remove and install of this assembly was 3 fold.

1. Removal of the Plastic Door Panel. Take your time. It is plastic and parts may break. I had one plastic inside support snap, but was able to glue back in place with a two part epoxy. There were only 3 sheet metal screws. (2 at the handle and 1 at the bottom of the panel). Start pulling from the bottom; it will start to pop loose.

2. Disconnecting the glass from the sliders.
I was able to get the window rolled down enough to pull the pins that attach the glass to the sliders. I may have been able to do this from the top of the door panel by removing the gasket too.
**Important** make sure you tape the window in place so that it does not come crashing down after it is disconnected form the slider assembly.

3. Fishing the widow regulator assembly out and back into the door panel.
This was probably the most difficult part. I had to put the entire assembly inside the door panel then pull it back through the opposite opening so that the motor was on the outside of the panel. This took a few tries and was a little frustration as well.

Overall the experience was not bad. Probably took me a total of 1 hour to remove the door and replace the window regulator. Not bad for a first time.

Window is working great! Thanks for the feed back and advice. Good luck on your repairs.
