High Idle

i have a 97 mirage and currently been dealing with high idle issue... at one point dealing with fluxuating idle issues... i adjust the BISS screw and it did the job for awhile, but now it is back to square one a high idle. has anyone had these problems and what did you do to fix it? thanks for any help.

93 mirage

I had that happen with my mirage about a year ago and things got really bad....... I recommend get the mitsubishi manual from the company Mitsubishi...comprehensive info on your specific vehicle.... also you may want to check egr valve...make sure it is not leaking vacumm... and last but not least is the check engine light coming on??? then you should probably try to retrieve codes from there.... good luck.

Thanks for the help. the check engine light was on, autozone said it read "throttle control malfunction" checked all the hoses, i cleaned the egr valve, it was DIRTY!!!! the valve was sticking, now it moves smooth. the check engine light has not come back on, but the car still pulls or almost bobs forward back and forth while driving just of the break. i have no problems once the car is out of first. its just when idle driving, then when in park you can hear the idle high. throttle positioning sensor maybe? any other suggestion will help

thank all of you for this kind of help!

I have the same problem and as far as i can figure it is turning out to be the IAC or the Throttle position sensor. The IAC controls the car when it is cold. I was told at one time it was also the Temp sensor i changed that and it worked ok for a while but came back. I have just about changed everything on the motor except the TPS and IAC (Idle Air Control) Both parts are expensive but i found a proceedure to check the TPS at http://www.alflash.narod.ru/MMC/mmc93.pdf After i do this i will post as to whether it was that or not. The IAC is a little bit harder to check I can hear it working but it may not be physically moving the valve. Do u find that when it is cold it seems to do it worse then when it is warm? That is how mine is working. High then low in a sort of pattern. untill the car is completely warmed up and at idle. then it will smooth out.

Re: High Idle

i dont drive the car that much, not more then 15 min at a time. but i warm it up pretty extensivly before i go out and it just seems to be doing it when i am costing. also when i throw the car in the park position it idles extremly high! the cheapest TPS i found was at autozone for $130 if you find it any cheaper let me know. let me know how things turned out.
