2000 Silverado warm start problem

My 2000 Silverado has a warm start problem. When it has sat overnight or for many hours, it starts like new. When it has sat for 10 minutes to maybe 2 hours, it acts as though it isn't getting enough fuel and I have to pump the gas pedal while cranking it over. It definitely seems fuel related, not the battery side. It has 90,000 miles on the 5.3L V8. I know the fuel filter has never been changed, but it doesn't hesitate at all once it's going. Could it be the fuel pressure regulator, or perhaps a temperature sensor? Any other experience out there with this? Thanks.

Definitely change the filter. Check the vacuum line for the fuel pressure regulator for gas, if there is gas in the vacuum line replace it too

Like Jeremy said check the vac line on press regulator for fuel. mine was doing the same exact thing. Even if there is no fuel there because it is going bad. Esay to change right on the fuel rail drivers side.

Had the same problem.

Look at the battery cable going to the fuse box.

Check for corrosion on the cable.

The connector was clean but all the copper in the lining had power stuff in it.

I replaced the alt and the cable running to the fuse box and now my trucks starts just by looking at it.

Maybe a dumb question, but to clarify, if there is fuel in the vacuum line, do I replace the vacuum line or the fuel pressure regulator? Also, can anybody point me to their whereabouts (along with the fuel filter)? I've tried the throttle body cleaning, but warm starts still require a bit of cranking. Cold starts are fine. Looks like it's time to buy a service manual.

I have had two occasions in the past six months where my truck would simply not start. Both times the vehicle was fairly warm, (ran down to the gas station to pick up milk or beer). It would turn over, act as if it got enough gas to start and then die immediately. After turning it over 8-10 times over the next 10 minutes I would give up and hitch a ride. Both times I went back 15-30 minutes later and tried it and it started right up. Almost seems like a vapor lock...???

At any rate I decided to start replacing the lowest cost items in the fuel system. Purchased a replacement fuel filter last night, but for the life of me I do not know where the old one is at. I used to work on cars a lot, as my family used to drag race, but pretty much any cars after about 1980 I get lost. HELP PLEASE! - Thanks.

Just wanted to let anyone interested know that I finally got around to replacing the fuel filter and the fuel pressure regulator on my 2000 Silverado. The warm start problem is gone and the truck idles and runs much smoother. The vaccum line from the FPR did have gas in it when disconnected. If you have to replace a FPR, 2hints: shop around for the part - auto supply store prices ranged from $59 to $89; and pay attention to that &$#@! clip that holds the FPR to the fuel rail. It only goes on one way and it's not as easy as it looks.

I have been suffering with rough idle, and warm start problems for a while. No one had a solution for my warm start problem...but using this website, I found the problem...FPR, the truck runs like new again...I wonder how long this has really been a problem...maybe more than a year.

did any of you with Regulator/Warm Start issues experience any "diesling" or "pinging" on acceleration?

I had the problem in our 98 venture, and we had a 2001 Silverado at work that had the same problem. Both fixes were the FPR, The truck pinged alot, I never noticed it dieseling though.
