obd II code scanner

Okay, I've got a CE light on my 2000 tacoma and it won't go away. Cleared it twice now and it keeps coming back. The code goes to the O2 sensor, saying system running too lean, but not sure which one. Tried troubleshooting the upstream sensor, but it came back with some weird readings. Haven't tried the downstream, but it's only got 43000 miles on it so I wouldn't think that would be a problem.

I want to get a code reader, but not sure which one to get. I'd like something that will get me some real-time readings so I can pick out which sensor to replace. Talked to a guy at Autozone and he says they've got one that'll do it for about $250.

Cost of an o2 sensor is about $300, so don't want to just throw parts at it to see if it fixes it. But wouldn't mind dropping a couple three hundred on a scanner. I'm going to have the truck for a long time, so I'm not too worried about the cost of it. Just want to make sure and get a good one.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

If you have a laptop, check out obddiagnostics.com. $88.00 for the interface and the program is downloaded from the website. Will give you real time data. I have one and works pretty good so far.

Take it to the dealership, it is still under warranty. Let them fool with it. Cory

Re: obd II code scanner

you can get a new o2 sensor for your truck for under 20 bucks. i had this same problem with mine, it ended up being the sensor after the cat. it fixed my problem and im getting better gas mileage
