2001 Sierra won't start

I have a 2001 Sierra 2500HD that doesn't start at times. The first time it happened I stopped to get gas the engine was off for 3 minutes got back in truck and it wouldn't start. The only noise I heard was a small relay clicking under the dash, no parts of the engine moved or made any noise. All the electronics appeared to be working correctly. Tried to jump with no results. Finally it just started for no apparent reason. The next time this happened was about a month later in the parking lot were I work came out to start it after I got off and it wouldn't start. This time I couldn't get it started got a ride home and left the truck. Next morning I went to work tried the truck and it still wouldn't start. I called a tow truck about 4 hours later when he arrived and hooked up to the truck I asked to try to start the truck again and guess what it started. They took it to their shop but couldn't find any problem. Has anyone experienced this kind of problem?

Re: 2001 Sierra won't start

A very common problem on batteries with side posts. There is not enough current going through to turn the starter. Have you tried cleaning the terminals on your batteries. Another thing to look at is the battery meter. If it is reading under 12volts, your terminals probably need some cleaning. Long term solution is to replace the battery with one with top posts and cable ends with the top post style. If not, then just get in the habit of cleaning the posts on a regular basis and checking them for tightness.
