my car is spewing oil! any help would be nice

ok check this out. I have a 93 accord lx 3-door. air intake only. now i took my car to a drive through oil changing place(didn't have time/place to do it myself and one of the worlds best ideas in my opinion) and the guy told me that my car is leaking oil. I knew that is was leaking oil but i was not sure from where. He told me that it looked like i was leaking from two places. Where the oil pan meets the engine and from where the transmission meets the engine. This place does not do engine work nor did they refere me to a "friend" to get the items fixed. So i do not think he was bull shitting me. After that, i pretty much figured i am loosing about 1.5qt every 1,000 miles. Any one know how expensive it is going to be? and am i just better off getting new jdm engine/transmission or just better off getting a newer accord. I really love my accord and don't really wanna give it up.

well it looks like you will need to repalce the oil pan gasket and the drive shaft gasket....I used to live in your area and if I remember right there are plently of places that are inexpensive in Oakland and Alamenda to get that repalced. But those are the 2 gaskets you need to get fixed

Oil pan gasket is not that bad. But the rear main seal is the pain in the ass. Will cost you a furtune. The seal itself is only about $20 to $30, but the labor is a lot.

In order to change the rear main seal you have to take the transmission out, since it is between the engine and transmission...i did this when i blew the tranny in my car i don't know what the book time to change this is but it took me about 2 hours to change the transmission so the book time (time you get charged labor for) is most likely at least 4 or 5 hours. Consider changing the oil pan gasket first since it is pretty easy and see how much that improves the situation, but the rear main will eventually need changing.

I USED to have a leaking rear main seal, but it "healed itself!" I've now been leak-free () all summer.

Re: my car is spewing oil! any help would be nice

I know - amazing isn't it? I may well have changed brand of oil (I'm not religious about that kind of thing) but not the grade or the type (regular/syn etc.).

The only possibility is that the mechanic who said it was the rear main was wrong, and it was actually the valve cover gasket (which has been changed). But I got under the car at that time, and it sure looked like the oil was coming from the rear main. It was bad enough to drip oil on the exhaust (the fumes from which then got sucked inside the car!).

[Before you point out that the rear main is to the right and the exhaust is in the center --- know, but I could see where the oil was running across a little ways before dripping]

It's been a while now, and I can't recall when the drips actually stopped, so I can't relate it to the timing of a specific repair.
