Re: cold air induction and tune ?'s

Well.. Cold air intakes are usually very simple to install and can be done by one person in a short amount of time..

2) if they are iridium plugs, I dont think you are supposed to gap them

3) buy some die-electric grease or spark plug boot grease (any automotive store)
pull off and Replace the wires One at a time, so you dont get them crossed, squeezing a little grease into the plugwire boots on both ends.. Making sure they're on good and tight, And make sure you dont crack the sparkplugs putting them in.. It happens very often

4) Ide stick with AC delco oil filters

Re: cold air induction and tune ?'s

A lot of the guys here use Mobil 1 oil and say they like it... I think its overrated and overpriced

I use Esso Extra synthetic.. Out of all the tests SONIC has done with different oils in the turbocharged 7mGTE... Esso Extra has come out to be the best.. Sonic is a Supra owners group in Canada headed by Reg Reimer.. He does a lot of work for Toyota F1 on their race and rally cars.. IMO, if Esso is the best oil for my turbocharged inline 6, its gonna be the best oil for my chev 350

This is my opinion, but it is based on Fact

Re: cold air induction and tune ?'s

Umm, your SS doesn't have cold air intake? What's that scoop in the hood for then? Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought all SS and WS-6 had cold or "ram air" induction? No offence, but are you sure you have a real 2000 SS?

Re: cold air induction and tune ?'s

The SLP air lid is one of the best made intake lids you can buy. It goes in easily and fits very well.

Before you install the spark plugs make sure they are gapped correctly. Some people say you dont have to do it but it takes 2 seconds and its better to check first than to have to take them back out later.

yeah the 2001 SS came with a induction lid, unless maybe he is putting in a bigger one or something. The stock lid would be fine for airflow unless you have lots of power, or a blower or something i think. I would get other mods before the lid, since the SS already has induction. From what i've seen cold air kits for the SS wouldn't be bad for it. It sure wont help much, maybe 2hp, but I couldnt see it hurting it. just though i would look it up first.

Re: cold air induction and tune ?'s

As for your oil, I run my car hard, I use Royal Purple 20w50, when considering a filter, don't get the ones that have a low micron filter ability. Its just stupid, a piece of sand is equal to 100 microns. That being said, your car needs oil when you get on it, and if you have too much restriction with the oil getting slowed down by the filter you could starve your car and cause yourself more problems. Keep in mind where you live for your descision on what weight of oil you use as well. I only run Royal Purple, if I can't get it then I use Castrol's Synthetic.
