'98 Aurora Nav unit

Installed a Nav unit in a friend's '98 Aurora this Saturday.
Took about four hours to install, most of the time was spent thinking and planning as this was the first Aurora install.
There were a few minor problems but most can be resolved.

OK:

So by putting in this unit, did the Driver Infirmation center stop working,I noticed anote about date Unavaiable.

Also the sterring wheel controls did they stop working.

I was also thinking about installing oneof these, but I may settle for a Garmin instead and just dask mount.

Was they any special wiring required and how much was the unit.

Re: '98 Aurora Nav unit

I did not check the DIC as it was allready displaying the Date Unavailable message before I started the install.
The SWC (Steering Wheel Control) do not work with the Nav unit but can be made to work with the addition of a aftermarket module.
I had to make a wire-harness adapter to switch from the original radio connector to the new radio connector, easy to make.
The newer Nav units, with a touchscreen would look better in the Aurora as the trim around the radio is flat and so are the touchscreen Nav radios.
If you want to keep the original look of the car this is the way to go and you can also upgrade the sound system with BOSE speakers and amps.
