Need help fast!

Ok i got a few questions.
First- because my block is messed up I got two options
1. get a 6g72 block from a montero sport for $150 dollers.
2. buy a block from mitsubishi and put a hole in my wallet.

Second-
1. If i get the 6g72 from a montero would i have to put oil squirters on it?
2. Where are the oil squirters on a stock 92 vr4 block?
3. And the guy is saying that i would have to buy new rods and pistions for the montero block, because he would have to "bore out the block for the pistions to fit"
4. And to top that off he said that crank is messed up beyond use and he would have to get another one off another vr4 for $150.

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!! WHAT TO DO?!?!?!

Re: Need help fast!

Well, I'm not 100% sure about all this, but here are some of my thoughts:

1. Montero engine is a 3.5L, therefore it should be bigger, and the reason for getting new pistons would be that the vr4 pistons would be too small...not that the block would need to be bored out to fit them...I think he has that backwards.

Also, when he says oil squirters, I'm assuming he means lash adjusters(or lifters) which you can buy at dynamicracing.com for $300. But that is just a guess...he may be talking about something else.

You already have priced other cranks I assume...but overall it sounds like this is becoming one hell of a frankenstein car if you work with this guy...it may be easier to get a JDM engine, or a new shortblock(like the one I pm'ed you about at dynamic racing) and just get it dropped in as a replacement.

How well do you know this mechanic...have you tried others in the area? Go to 3si.org and check out their regional sections, perhaps you can find someone who lives near you to assist you or recommend a competant mechanic who really knows our cars.

Oh and lastly, don't ever go to a Mitsu dealership...whether to buy a part or to get them to work on your car...90% of the time they are incompetant, and 100% of the time they overcharge by WAY TOO MUCH.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

Re: Need help fast!

Well thats just it the mechanic says that he has a montero block in the back and he would see if my block matched it. He also says if it is that he would have to get new rods and pistons to fit the bored block. Also he says hes gonna get me another crank with bearings Hmm the grand total would be around $500-$600.

more suggestions?
