clunking noise in the suspension...

When I hot a pot hole pretty hard I get a clunking noise from underneath the car. If I run over the hole withthe front tires, the noise comes from the front end....and if I hit it with the rear tires, the noise comes from the rear area.....Any ideas???

Well, you could stop running over pot holes!

Re: clunking noise in the suspension...

Actually yeah - I have. (done worse than that, too -- the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. Some of THOSE pot holes are bigger than an Accord!)

More seriously - suggestions - if the car is old, worn suspension front and back; exhaust system hitting the floor somewhere; supension bottoming-out.

Bushings sound like a possible, but I haven't experienced your problem.

hit a hole big enough any car will do this even brand new one's if it's doing it at all 4 corners it's not likely a problem just try not to hit them....however if you keep hitting them then it will start to wear stuff out

if you keep hitting holes you will eventually need these as well as other suspension parts

just to clarify before someone calls me out on it. I understand that his suspension is generally worn out as it has 200,000 miles on it and yes a new car would not do this as bad (but it would still do it) but what i'm saying is that there is not something broken most likely it is just normal wear and tear on the suspension and short of getting struts and all that i don't know how to improve the situation.

Agreed and Agreed!...if it is a bouncy type of clunking your struts are most likely worn.
