Signal Lights not blinking

Hey,

Out of the blue, my signal lights (left and right signals) stopped blinking on my '95 manual sunfire. Now i have to do it manually so basically keep pushing the signal lever or whatver you call it over and over again so it looks like my lights are blinking when they really aren't

Does this have to do with some sort of electrical problem or can I just go out and buy new lights to fix the problem? I don't really want to spend too much on this car so maybe if this'll cost too much to repair i'll just live with doing it all manually.

Thanks~

Re: Signal Lights not blinking

There are two things that can cause this problem, a bad flasher or a bad switch. First, do your emergency flashers work. If not replace the flasher and try again. If they still don't work then there is a switch that controls the emergency flashers that has gone bad. It costs about $140 to purchase, (check the Grand Am forums for similar problems) but gmpartsdirect has it at a fair price. You can replace it yourself but it could be difficult. I would start with the flasher and go from there.

Re: Signal Lights not blinking

thx, i'll check it out but from the looks of it (and the previous problems I've had with the car) i'm sure it's the switch. If the emergency flashers don't work, I think i'm just sticking with doing it manually by hand heh... Already poured $500 into the car for a clutch fluid leak (slave cylinder was bad).

I might open up a new thread for this but I had another question. There's some weird residue or chemical or something stuck to my windows, especially right passenger window and windshield. It won't go away with just some windex.

Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot btw~

Try vinagear water and news paper. I use it on my window and it take off just about everything.

Re: Signal Lights not blinking

wow..never would've thought of that heh. The vinegar water. Thx

Just checked my emergency lights. They work fine. Just left and right turn signals don't blink. I need to buy new lights then I guess? That should, most likely, fix it right? How much do these lights go for usually just to get an idea.
