Crack Head Losers
Here ye here ye. This kid I know has expressed to me that any day a mr2 will out handle a 300zx due to the fact that formula one cars run of the Rear-engine Rear-wheel drive format. I don't believe this to be true, he said an mr2 would be a better investment than a 300zx. I think...no. I could be wrong.

Re: Crack Head Losers
a mr2 looks like a stupid bug. Just because the engine is in the rear doesnt prove anything. How about the old VW betels? The had an engine in the rear and what did they have like 130hp and top speed of 130?

Re: Crack Head Losers
Top speed of 130 for a Bug? Think you're being way generous with that...but I could be wrong.
A car's layout doesn't matter as much as some people think. Yes, balance is important, but suspention setup, driving techniques, and tires have MUCH more influence on the handling of a car.

Antiburn I don't know where your getting your figures from but the VW "Bug" that I know of had 40-60HP and on a good day downhill with a strong wind on your donkey might go 100MPH.
I've personally road raced against MR2's and they won't hold a candle against a race prep'ed 240 thru Z32 on there best day. Some of the best GP road racing cars are front engine. There's three different type of cars, front, mid and rear engine cars. Which one's the best, depends on the designer. The MR2 and Z32 corner and brake about the same, but the big difference is coming out of the turns, the Z32 well smoke the MR2 so bad it wouldn't even be a race. On a 3.2 mile course I can smoke MR2 and that class cars by 20+sec. a lap, and that my friend is alot. On that course I was turning 170-175MPH on the back shute and you figure that by 20 sec. and see the difference. |

Re: Crack Head Losers
Always thought the MR2 was a mid-engine not a rear engine car.... hmmph I could have been wrong. As for F1 cars being uber handling cars becuase of engine placement, is a bunch of BS. I am a HUGE Formula 1 fan and I also watch ALOT of WRC, and JPGT racing, and F1 cars are so nimble becuase of balancing and the KEY WORD, DOWNFORCE, wow novel idea there. If you build a car from scratch you can make it a great handling car.
The MR2 was known as a tail happy car in the corners, and a bitch to keep under control in a slide situation, they had a tendancy to understeer at the begining of a corner then suddenly oversteer before or near the apex of the turn, this was becuase of shifting of wieght do to lateral loads on the car. The Z32 300ZX on the other hand had a mild understeer that was easily correctable by careful throttle control, this made the car predictable and a joy to drive. I have driven both and I can agree with the assesments of both cars whole heartedly. And in the next week or two I am going to try and get a Ford dealership to take me on a test drive in the new Mustang, its good to know the rivals cars before they know them. I have been known to scare salesmen on test drives, not my fault, I like to see what the car can do if I test it. Although the best scare I have ever done was to a Subaru salesman, I took a brand new WRX STI out with him on a test drive and he took me to a empty back road down through the park in the NE part of Pheonix AZ, lots of winding turns..... I proceeded to drop the clutch at 4500 RPM and light into the road with that AWD beast in true rally fashion. Little did the salesman know that I knew every turn in this road I have driven it several hundred times in my ZX2 escort playing around. I was taking courners at 30mph above the posted limits in some cases getting a nice 4 wheel powerslide through some of them, he ripped the handle off from over the passenger door, as I got the car sideways through a hairpin right, a quick yank on the E-brake and a blip of the throttle and mash the clutch all at the same time and WOW almost like drifting! I am driving looking out the side windows. I slow it down and turn it around and do the samething on the return trip through the park. I brought it back into the dealership in a mild daily driver fashion and parked it with out much fan fair. The poor salesman got out of the car still holding on to the handle, he then was warned by another salesman who has seen me drive before in my own car, to becareful with me I like to drive sideways..... a little late after the fact. This is why I love test driving cars, its more fun when its not yours...... lol. |

Re: Crack Head Losers
the sad thing is, i can GUarantee you that the salesman would Never have let me take any sort of car like that out for a test drive... he would automatically assume that i'm some punk kid that sucks at driving and would automatically say no to any sort of test drive. granted i'm not the best driver in the world, i can handle myself in emergency situations quite well, and very rarely get into them.. also, i'm gaining experience quickly with rwd cars so pretty soon i'll be quite compitent with them. anyway, getting to the point of this ramble... salesmen are bias sumbitches with no respect for today's youth

Re: Crack Head Losers
its all in how you dress and carry yourself bottom line youth or not.. act like you know your shit be confident and act like you belong there and "dress to impress" talk your stuff read up on the car and make the salesmen ask questions dont make LOTS of statements... its all in how smooth you can be..

Re: Crack Head Losers
I've been pulling this stunt for almost 10years now, since I was in college. It all started becuase I wanted a new car and couldnt afford one. I was driving my mean old 89 Ranger with its monster 4.0 V6, me and a freind rolled into a toyota dealership in Beckly WV near our homes in a neighboring county, and decided we will take the 95-96 celica GT out for a test drive, we fed them all kinds of BS and dressed nicely before we went, so we looked like recent college grads, that was our cover story. He then let us go out with him on a short drive around the block, then we told him we needed to think about it and gave him our "phone" numbers and told him we would contact him if we would decide to buy. Later we came back saying we wanted something with more power sportier something that would beat a mustang, so he showed us a Supra they had out on the lot, mind you this is in 96. We asked to see if we could take it for a test drive, he relunctantly gave in after some convincing and let us go in it, it was alot of fun but way too much money for what I was getting. And thats exactly what I told him. So far with emissions testing and testdriving at dealerships for fun, I have driven every make and model of car that has been mass produced in the US from the past 15 years. Some great cars, but a whole lot of turds.
