I spent 3 hours in New Centry BMW dealer's waiting hall last weekend just for one reason, hooking up my two babies, ipod mini with 330 CIC '03. Swaping my credit card for the bill of $262 inlcuding $149 parts and $99 labor (one hour), I plugged ipod into the connector located in my glove box. Shifting the mode button, I easily located the ipod mode even display showing CD-. The quality is really good. though not as good as real cd yet. With Harmen Karden audio sysytem, it sounds really colosed to CD quality. It connector charges ipod while it's playing. It means you don't have to worry about the battery when you drive from LA to Vegas or even NYC.
It also allows you to setup up to 5 playlists. Once ipod plugged with bimmer, all functions of ipod are transferred to bimmer to control. The buttons and wheel on ipod are all locked. Despite the price, if you have ipod and drive a 3 series after '02 without navigation systme, you should get them hooked up like me. It is great experience. |

Re: ipod your BMW
My friends Ipod hooks up to his POS grandam with just a plug. He has an after market head unit though so maybe thats why. However he cant control it the way you can with the steering wheel and stuff. Hes still got to use the Ipod to change songs.

hey just wondering do you have to name ur play list in ur ipod "bmw3" or whatever? I'm getting a 2005 325 coupe just wondering does the mp3 still work after i installed the ipod. Also is it tru that your not allowed to fast forward the ipod once it's connected on to your car?

I have a 2004 M3 with Navigation and I've read on the BMW site that their iPOD connector won't work with Nav systems. Has anyone found an alternative that will allow both to work? I'd prefer to stay away from FM transmitters...

Update - I installed the ICE LINK yesterday and it works like a charm. The text to Nav is killer and the install was as easy as it gets!

That's the one I use in my 04 M3. It has some very cool features that aren't available with the OEM version and it works with navigation. You can pick one up at Best Buy but make sure your dad updates the firmware (call Dension support for that). If your dad doesn't have nav, then the OEM kit is an option. You can get that from your BMW dealership. |
