Lip deminsions

I was wanting to know what everything thinks of how far down a bumper lip should be. I'v been designing ones that are 2 3/4" tall. Before I start making molds I was wanting to see what everyone thinks. Is this too tall? Too short? Just the right height?

Are you talking about overall height or just the amount that would hang under the bumper itself? I really couldnt put on a lip that would hang down lower than say 1/2" to 3/4" below the bumper as I have enough trouble getting a jack underneath my stock bumper as is with a 2.25" drop in front (approx 2 finger).

the height of what will accually hang under the bumper. a 1/2" lip wouldnt even be noticeable.

eh now that i think about it I think I have the most trouble getting it under the cross member not the bumper, i'll have to go measure this.
And also the lip comes up on the side of the bumper a little bit to give it some visual height.

Edit: are you molding the lip for a 88/89 front end or a 90/91 with the brake duct/cai/foglight holes?

Re: Lip deminsions

the ones I'm making dont. They attach to the bottom. and dont overlap any of the bumper, Think it looks cleaner this way.

Re: Lip deminsions

they will fit 88-91 and dont have foglight holes or vents, but they can be added if anyone wants them.

Re: Lip deminsions

i would think that the lip sould hang more then a 3/4 in. off the bumper if its gonna be 2 1/2 in. tall but thats just my 2 cents

i'd say at least an inch lower then the bumper anything less then just use the stock lip its like 3/4 in below the bumper and maybe 1 1/4 tall

we need the lip hugging bumper action going on. it would blend in better than a lip that looks stuck on the bottum of the bumper IMO.

Re: Lip deminsions

Allright, if enough people want ones that overlap I'll change them to be like that before I make the molds. But what do you think on the height BELOW the bumper, right now the one I'm working on is 2 3/4"

Re: Lip deminsions

if they r made good the ones that attach on the bottom look better, smoother lines

plus if it over laps to much 90-91 crx's wont look right with it on they have the vent type things in the lower part of the bumper

I dunno why but to me the overlapped part just makes the lip look like part of the bumper here.

vs the stock lip which looks like a totally seperate piece just hanging there.
check iT Maybe make some overlap but don't put any overlap into the vents as seen above.

As for the 2 3/4" hang down I will have to measure and thats going to be tomorrow bc its cold rainy as hell, I dont have any cloths on and im parked 1/2 mile away. School parking rULES!!!

Re: Lip deminsions

99% sure the bottom of the bumper is shaped the same on both crx and civic for both years, because the deminsions of the bumper never changed, just the styling changed a little in 90
