OBD-II on 95-Jetta

Hi All -

I posted a week ago a note about reading the Check-Engine-Lights codes on my 95 Jetta. I was given the advice to go get a OBD-II reader and to get the codes.

I was able to get the OBD-II from AutoZone (here in California, AutoZone will not read the codes for you, but they *will* loan you the hardware to do it yourself).

Tries it out, and it didn't work --> "unable to connect". Ugh.

That having been said, after trying to connect for ~2-minutes, and right before "failing", the check-engine light did flash "3-3-3".

I was told that the 95-Jetta *may not* work with OBD-II. Is that right?

Does anyone know what "3-3-3" means?

Thanks ...

later,
-Branko.

Look under the hood. If it is a late year model, it MIGHT be OBD-II. Chances are it's OBD-I.

yeah, i checked last night ... OBD-I. Ugh.

Also, connecting pin-4 to pin-15 didn't work for me. I read on another message board that the later-model 95's don't work with this mickey-mouse method.

Apparetnly, the only way I'm gonna get these codes is a) take it ot the shop, or b) buy the VAG-COM interface.

Does anyone know of any other way to read the codes?

Re: OBD-II on 95-Jetta

This also confused me. I have a 95' jetta and was told it was OBD-I. but I found the connector plug was OBD-II. Could I use OBD-II to check my car?
