Fuel Filter Connectors

I am having a heck of a time replacing my fuel filter on my 99 New Jetta. My Bentley manual says to push on the connector to release it, but I broke the darn thing. Anyone have any experience with these connectors? Looks like I may have to replace the line from the tank to the filter. The tank connector will not release either.

I just replaced mine on my 2000 jetta, yeah they are difficult, you pinch them, but you can't see where to pinch because its on top, they are a quick release design, try pinching from the top to the bottom then just pull away, but I almost broke mine too! hope that helps!
