The Master of Flow

OK, here's where everybody gets to flame me some more (or not, hopefully)! I just got a custom 3" cat-back exhaust put on the WRX-wagon. It consists of crush-bent alumized steel pipe, a Flowmaster 40-series muffler, and some nearly-stock looking tips. It sounds hella cool (no rattle, nothing but burble and roar) and it smooths out my powerband quite a bit. I haven't dynoed it, before or after, but the butt-dyno says the motor breathes a lot better. I know, I know, a straight-through muffler is better for a turboed engine, but the straight-through mufflers are more expensive or look like grapefruit launchers. Works for some people, not for me. Anyway, it sounds really cool, like an American V-8 (wish I had some way to make an MP3 for y'all), and it only cost me $200, and that includes the custom flange and stock-looking tip. It's a little loud, but on the Interstate with the radio on it's not even noticeable until you want to pass somebody. Definitely not any annoying drone. Around town it's a bit louder, but not too bad. Anyway, significantly cheaper than a pre-made cat-back system, and a Magnaflow or other straight-through muffler would have cost the same. Just thought I would share the good cheapness with everyone.

Re: The Master of Flow

awesome, could you get some pictures? I have thought about going this way and not dropping $500 on a pre-made cat-back

Re: The Master of Flow

Mandrel-bent pipe is more expensive by a considerable amount. I'll try to get pictures up as soon as possible (maybe later this afternoon). If one of my friends has a way to make an MP3 from it, I'll get one of those up, too.

to answer shi shi's question, its about the same depending on the companies you go with, good companies a little more, AKA you get what you pay for, but for 1200 you can get some decent parts
