Post For the people who want high horspower and be able to keep a overdrive tranny

http://www.artcarr.com/catalog/gm-A-D-Z.php

Quit pissin around with the stock 700-r4 and fork out the dough to keep it alive. Built 700-r4's. If your going to make the power, you need to play the money game.

Those are decent pricing. Do they require a core though I wonder?

Re: For the people who want high horspower and be able to keep a overdrive tranny

um, i beg to differ, my 700R4 has very simple mods,

-B&M TransKit with stage II shift kit setup
-Corvette 1st-2nd servo
-2600rpm Stall converter with kevlar lockup clutch

and had it assembled by my tranny guy, total cost of all parts and labor (discounted of course) is around $620.00 and he tells me itll handle 600hp, and 500hp reliably. and he knows his shit.

Re: For the people who want high horspower and be able to keep a overdrive tranny

lockup vs non lockup is the type of converter you have.

old style converters were subject to cronic slippage, unlike a clutch which links the engine and the tranny together with zero slippage, because they are just two fans spinning in a fluid with one fan pushing fluid through the other making it spin, by the elements of its design its not perfect and you will always be loosing power to that, and running at higher rpms than nessesary. this causes lower gas mileage, and increased heat in the trans fluid. the benifit to the torque converter is that at low vehicle speed, when the car is accelerating from a dead stop, it can multiply the torque going to the rear wheels by several times.

the lockup converter is the best of both worlds. it allows the torque multiplication that the fluid coupler offers, but also includes an internal clutch connected to a solenoid which allows the converter to lock up at highway speeds for economic cruising with lower rpms and trans fluid temps.
