89 Max vs. 2K3 Cavalier

hey every1, I've got another race to tell ya about.

First, a little about our cars. Mine is a 1989 Nissan Maxima SE (5-speed, the GXE's didn't come with a 5-speed tranny) with 190,000 on the clock...just this past thursday i had a Warpspeed Y-pipe and CarSound Hi-Flo Cat installed. I also have a 3A Racing DTM-style exhaust (i kno...crappy brand, but sounds pretty damn good) uhmm...i shortened my shift arm approx. 3", attached a cone filter to the end of the factory air box (i kno...no HP gains...i just like the sound). His car is completely stock, 2.2L (you guys probably know this) with 21,000 on the clock.

Yes, it is a 140 HP engine against a 160 HP engine (probably...i probably lost some with age and then gained it back with the y-pipe and cat), but his car also weighs about 400 lbs less than mine.

I offered to show the guy how to get somewhere after class today. I made a smart remark about "If you can keep up". He was like "Ok, we'll have a little race thingy" (he acts like he's high almost all the time...haha). So we get out of class and he drives me to my car (his is also a 5-speed, but i knew that before today because when he would drive away...he kept it in first gear too long for it to be a auto) and i lead him out of the parking lot. Light turns green (its for a left turn, he is behind me), I take off, so does he, and to my surprise, he's not gainin on me at all. I would have figured he would gain on me, since his car is a lot newer than mine. I hold my hand out the window and give him a thumbs up, and he returns it. We get off at the exit we're supposed to, turn left at the bottom, and i pull up to the red light ahead, and he pulls up next to me. I yell out the window "Pretty quick for an old car, huh?" He was like "Yeah, I'm surprised!"

We pull up to where we're supposed to go, and I ask him "Were you really trying?" he was like "Yeah...I like the sound of that exhaust"

I kno this isn't really considered a kill or a death, but what do you guys think?

I wouldn't consider it a bigtime kill....but you obviously won the race. Man, you should invest in a new engine....190k....god damn, thing must be like 67 in engine years....

Actually, I just checked the stats.

Weight: 3000 vs 2800
HP/TQ: V6 160/180 vs I4 150/140

Judging by those numbers, you should have taken him with 40 more lb/ft of torque even though you weigh a little more.

Re: 89 Max vs. 2K3 Cavalier

2003+ Cavalier has 140HP and 150TQ, not 150 HP and 140TQ.

Re: 89 Max vs. 2K3 Cavalier

actually my car weighs 3153 (not including me and other stuff in the car, and his car weighs 2749 (not including him and other stuff in his car), but stock form, our power/weight ratios are very close...i kno it doesn't matter much, but those are the actual weights...and we only took it up to like 80-85 (about the top end of 3rd gear for me at least...i dont kno how his gearing is...probably about the same...3rd tops out at 90ish, but i dont redline it...i go by the tach)

(this doesn't argue with anyone...i just feel i should put it in here)
I mean, yea...i took off first, bein first in line and all...but i was just spinnin tires around the corner all the way thru 1st, so he had plenty of time to get on it...then i hit second and spun a lil more tire and took off...and he just stayed the same distance all the way to about 85...
