Wireless headphone question

We recently purchased a new 2004 Yukon XL with a DVD system installed. The dealership couldn't find the headphones, but assured us they would be shipped soon (long story already, but we'll see if they show up soon). Anyhow, I asked the automobile consultant we used if she could get us additional headphones as we have three kids and it only comes with two. She said she could, but that they'd be $80 each. Ouch. I wasn't expecting that, I figured they'd be closer to $25-$30 each.

Anyhow, I went straight to eBay and found several people selling 2 headphone and remote packages in the $50-$90 range (plus shipping). They all say that they'll work with Yukons, Hummers, Escalades, etc. The photos are not the best to begin with, but I don't even have the headphones I should have to compare them to. Does anyone out there know if these headphones are all interchangeable? I'd hate like heck to spend $50+ on two headphones that are useless in my vehicle.

Thanks!

I read your post in the other thread, and all I have to say is this--what kind of friggin' dealer is this (am I correct in assuming that you bought your truck at a GMC dealership)? They should have just taken a couple of pairs of headphones and the remote from some other vehicle--why should you have to wait on an item that they apparently misplaced, especially since you've already "paid" for the truck? I mean, you signed a vehicle purchase contract for a new truck, not a new truck with some missing items! Now if they said that they could get you the missing items in a day or two--that's one thing; but I think you mentioned that the remote might take a bit longer to ship...so again, I ask--why should you let the dealer make you wait, especially since you said that you can't listen to anything else while the rear is listening to DVD through the factory speakers...which they have no choice but to listen through, since of course, they don't have the factory wireless headphones to use?

Anyways, before you decide to possibly plunk down $50 or more on Ebay for some aftermarket headphones which may or may not work with the GM factory RSE, go to www.gmpartsdirect.com and see if they have part number 1999421 in stock--that is the part number for the factory wireless headphones (one pair), and it runs $36.54. They'll rape you on the shipping charges but even then, it sure is a lot less than paying $80 each!

Re: Wireless headphone question

Tonytone - I just checked the website you referenced but was unable to find the part number you mentioned. I'm assuming by the way you worded it that this is something that is available from time to time, so I'll check back again later. As for the auctions I mentioned, they were selling two headphones and a remote for $50-$90 (not for each headphone).

As for the dealership, I went through an auto consultant as my local GMC dealership was unable to get me anything I wanted during the 72 hr 0% sale. They said that no one would trade with them until after the sale. Anyhow, the consultant has been the one I've dealt with all along. I've been assured that everything will arrive today via FedEx, but it's currently 2:53pm locally and still no sign of the equipment. The consultant will be getting another call from me if the headphones do not arrive today. I will also contact the dealership directly and not be as nice about it as she apparently is being. I don't mean to come off like a jerk, but a $50k+ vehicle (I paid ~$45k thanks to a Supplier Discount Price) should come with all of it's parts. I fully agree with you there.

I'll keep you updated and I'll be happy to test the scenario you discuss in the other thread once the headphones arrive.

Re: Wireless headphone question

When I bought my truck, they were missing the navigation disc and the wrong but they got it within a week. This dealership is screwing you. Good luck with the headphones. What's a Suplier Discount? I got mine thorough the credit union and got a real deal without the stupid negotiations with the salesman.

Re: Wireless headphone question

The GM supplier discount price is a haggle-free deal I got because my brother-in-law worked (quit about two days after my purchase) for a participating company. It was an excellent deal and everything lined up perfectly for me (my brother in law not getting the new job offer beforehand, GMAC offering 0% financing for 72 mos at the same time, etc.). The headphones arrived today, still no remote, but that's not as big a concern to me to be honest.

mhuntoon--you sure about the part number not coming up on the website? I just went there (just before typing this reply), typed in the number (1999421) into the "SEARCH" field (where it says "Enter Part #") at the upper left corner of the main website, clicked "GO", and it found it clear as day.

Glad to hear that the headphones arrived! I still think it's a bunch of cr@p on that dealer's part that they can't just give you another remote rather than make you wait for something that's apparently on backorder. Not that it'll make a difference to them, but just based on their lack of commitment regarding the headphones and remote I'd be sure to give that dealership negative marks when you get that customer satisfaction survey.

Gotta love their "logic"--better have someone who just bought a vehicle wait for a missing item than to just take one from a vehicle that doesn't even have a buyer for it yet. Like some other person will likely buy that vehicle before the part comes in...yeah right! Can't inconvenience future customers but we can sure as heck inconvenience present ones...uh-huh.

Okay, sorry for venting but that just plain sucks on their part. Just like JackBauer, my DXL was also missing the nav disc; the dealer, although initially hesitant to take one from another vehicle, decided to go ahead and take one from another vehicle--I think he feigned hesitancy just to make me think that, by him giving me another one, he was willing to pull out all the stops in order to make me a happy customer.

I know you said that the remote is not that big of a deal compared to the headphones, but it's the principle. Like you also mentioned, it's not as if you plunked down just a measly few grand--for $45K, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect everything that's supposed to come with putting down that much money.

Tonytone - yes, I'm sure. I did exactly what you say above and I got a no item found message, that's why I said I'd check back in later assuming it was the type of item that isn't always in stock. What are the odds that they'd be in the next day?

I fully agree that their customer service sucks at this point. The customer survey won't be pretty.

Hmmm, that is really weird--I don't doubt your word that it doesn't come up when you try to look it up; FWIW I was able to pull it up again...see if this link will work:

http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/results...number=1999421

In any case, I guess you can always call them up and give them the part number; the description of said part number is "Headphone", the list price (i.e., what the dealer would charge you) is $73.08, and the website price (your cost--not including shipping--if bought at the website) is $36.54.
