"Tailgate Open" message

I have a 2000 Grand Cherokee and this weekend a little problem appeared. It seems that as I am driving, on every bump, my car displays the "Tailgate Open" message and turn on the interior lights. The tailgate is definately NOT open and a few bumps later, it goes off again. This happens all the time as I drive.

Can anybody help, please?

This sure sounds like a similar problem I had. Just purchased a '98 Grand Cherokee, and my problem was with the Driver Door Ajar message. Every turn or bump, the alarm would ding, the lights came on, and the warning message displayed.

Took it to the dealer who adjusted the doors, and that fixed the problem. Wonder if maybe the lift gate needs to be adjusted.

Re: "Tailgate Open" message

yes, it sounds like you need to adjust the switch or latch.
