How do I fix my power window? I had the door skin off but the cable fell off as I was trying to find out why my window will not go up and down and that is as far as I got. I took it to a shop and they said the regulator needed to be replaced. To me the regulator sounded fine but what do I know? If someone could tell me step by step how to repair it, I would be eternally grateful.

Re: 94 Grand Marquis Window Problems
Been awhile...but it's helpful to get the replacement regulator from the dealer (usually), they sell alot of them. Have to remove the old one, and get it clear of the glass, which is where I went wrong - broke the glass and that made the repair much more expensive. Once you get into it and have it apart, put the new unit in. You'll probably have a bit of cussing the first time you put it in, but the second (third and fourth) will be easier.

Re: 94 Grand Marquis Window Problems
Sorry I don't have a step by step, but....once you have the door panel off, you'll see that there's an electrical connection to the window motor, and that the actuator bolts to the motor, which is in turn bolted to the door. Assuming the motor is good, (test it with door panels off to make sure) you can unbolt the actuator from the motor and disconnect the electrical connections. There were 3 bolts holding the motor and the actuator to the door, I had to take the 3 out, the whole thing came down, then unbolted the actuator. With all this, you'll have to work the old unit out and the new one in, and reassemble. It's really hard to describe, best way is to take your time and look at it as you go in. The thing that'll cost you the most $$ is breaking the window glass (NOT recommended (:o )
I had the toughest time getting the whole unit out of the door. (Don't remember here) you may have to unbolt one end of the rail that the window rides up and down on. Once you have the new unit in and hooked up, I'd recommend a good heavy coat of grease on all the moving parts in there. By watching the motion as you work the window up and down, you'll be able to see the parts that need to be greased. Good luck!! Let me know how it comes out. Watch the glass!! |

Oh yeah; and prepare to cuss and get your hands scraped going in and out of the door. It's a little bit of a tight fit.
