Lightbulb Aftermarket fuel pump

Can you install a aftermarket electric fuel pump out side of the tank,
imstead of replacing the one in the tank, considering the problems and the reliabiltiy factor? I just replaced the fuel pump in my Suburban,
but If it happens again I would like to triy a different pump. Maybe something more reliable. I keep hearing if you run the tanl below 1/4 the pump doesn't last. My wife drives the Suburban during the week and she always ride on E.

I don't think that would work without changing your entire fuel sending unit and maybe the tank.(not worth it)
Take a minute and read my posting "Suburban fuel pump" and then tell your wife to pretend the tank is empty when she's down to a half. And I know it hurts every time you top it off with 40 gallons at $2 plus per gallon. However it should save you a lot future grief.
