No odemeter or speedometer and trany problems started all at the exact same time

The battery was change on my 1995 Cutlass supreme ( automatic, 3.1 )2 days ago and was working fine and as I was driving felt like someone put the car into netral and my odemeter and speedometer stoped working now while driving it feels like it is skipping gears after driving for a while the check engine light will come on then it will start to shift a little better I don't think it is a tranmission problem since the car only has 99000km in it please help

It was a melted wire going to the speed sensor due to wear and tear.
