This nut is bugg'in me!!!

How do you remove this?
cut it off and get another?
I've ruined 2 small screwdrivers and a small punch trying to open up the shoulder on the nut-to get it out of the "keyway" type slot that the shoulder is pressed into.

Also on this 94 Escort wagon the rear drums have 2 phillip head srcews you remove from the drum then have to inset 2 longer screws of the same thread and pitch to back the drum off of hub-happen to know the type to use for this purpose? Or I'll take it to the hardware store and match them up....

Many TIA, Tom

Re: This nut is bugg'in me!!!

on my 94 the drum has four holes...i removed the two screws and used the same screws to put into the OTHER two holes to back the drum off....as far as the nut, just a big ass breaker bar and a strong socket and it'll come off....that small area where it's pushed into the keyway won't be a problem...it'll just be pushed back out as you turn the nut...hope this helps...oh and it should be replaced with a new nut...

After i got the nut to out of the key way i couldnt get the nut to budge. I ended up bringing it to a local shop where they replaced the cv shaft for me of course it was more then if i would have done it myself but a whole lot less hassel. But i just used a chisel to get it out of the key way. I was told that its not a job you want to do on the ground or with out and impact wrench to get the nut off.

What I thought would be a “quick job-replace pads and check rotors” ran longer then I expected. First time doing this job on the Escort, was run’in out of time and that freak’in nut slowed me down. Thought about the breaker bar and thought I’d post here first…Thanks for the info, will attack it tomorrow!

I'm get'in this car ready for the winter-want it right because I commute 110 miles a day in it.

Put new tires on it last night and the mech doing the work said that the rotor is a "floating type" and all I needed to do was use air hammer or a BFH-- hammer the rotor around the wheel studs and it will fall off.....Said Escort rotors rust up solid around the the hub. He said Spindle nut doesnt matter????

Also, do they sell strut/coil spring combos or do you have to order struts & coils seperately..

Thanks, Tom

Re: This nut is bugg'in me!!!

the menroes i got for my escort were sold seperately... cant argue with the price for 2 springs and 4 struts though(the back springs litteraly broke in two)
and i think the nut your talken bout is just the one to hold the drums on on the assembly line like the ones on my drums formy 1993.. just drilled the heads off and never worried.
