new to subs/amp need a little help
alright im new to the whole car system thing, but i finally got some cash saved up and want to get a system. i am planning on getting 2 jl w6v2 which are 400rms dual 6 ohm? i am really confused on what kind of amp to get. 2 channel? 4 channel? whats does 600W RMS (continuous) x 1 @ 4 ohms, bridged mean? i was looking on best buy website and they have rockford fosgate amps with 1800 watts but i dont know if thats enough rms to power for 2 subs. thanks

you should get something that does around 1000x1 at 1.5 ohm, or 1500x1 @ 1ohm
what is your budget for the amp?

probly around 800. i was looking on ebay and found a few jl 1000.1. would that be good? and why would it be 1 ohm? thanks

Because no one ever advertises a 1.5ohm power rating (except for JL, because they're subs are some of the only ones that can be run at 1.5ohm), so instead of hunting around for an amp that is rated at 1000x1 @ 1.5ohm you can just find an amp that does 1500x1 @ 1ohm, because an amp that does 1500x1 @ 1ohm will do ~1000x1 @ 1.5ohm.
Anyway, yes a 1000/1 would work, as would many many others. $800 can buy you a lot, you could get a 1000/1 unauthorized with no warranty, or you could get an equivalent amp for the same price from another company that's fully authorized. These would be my choices, keep in mind I would take any of these over the 1000/1 simply because I like owning equipment that no one around me has. They're all very very good amps, and I've heard many tales of JL amps sounding kind of "dry" and not too lively, which is another reason I would go with one of these over a JL. 315 shipped. or a trutech amp... Cadence is fun. Personally I would get a nine.1 and work on other parts of your system that probably need improvment like say another amp and some components or maybe a new headunit...

how many watts are equal to 400 rms? if a amp is to powerful can you control how much power you use?

You can run a set of 100rms components on a 2000rms amp if you want, as long as you don't crank the volume and push the speakers past their limits (which you could do with a 100rms as well) then the speakers will be just fine. I recommended a 1000rms amp so you could get 500 to each sub, to give yourself a little headroom.

alright every day i am learning more and more and this is a stupid question but how will i know when i might be pushing my subs to far? i ordered 2 12 w6v2's today now just waitin on a little more cash to get the amp.
