Question Power Window troubleshooting help needed

I have a 2001 GT, problem with the left rear window. Goes down fine, not always up. Last time this happened, took 2 days for it to come up.

I checked the window / tracks all aligned and not binding. When it does not work, it is consistent from rear switch and drivers switch (rules out switch, I assume). Must be a motor thing or whereever the power is fed from.

One additional odd thing: Now that it started working again, the motor has no "brake" in the down direction (ie, let finger off the button and coasts to a stop). Wierd. Why does this happen? Is this pointing to the motor?

Re: Power Window troubleshooting help needed

i think it sounds like there's loose connection. if there's power at the other windows then you could rule out the power source because they all have the same feed. i would look at the connection at the motor first and then check the next connection from the motor. it could be could a loose connection or corrosion build up.

Re: Power Window troubleshooting help needed

Thanx for the feedback, I'll check it out. I ordered a motor as well, low risk ($30 at rockauto).

I've never done a window motor before. Anything to watch out for? Any tricks to removing the regulator?

thanx...

You said that the window went up two days later....? Did it go up quickly or inch by inch? Im having a similar problem with my drvr side window....goes down fine but up i need to hold button on angle and halfway down to go back up.....also works only in moderate temperatures... if this sounds like what you are experiencing can you let me know how the motor works for you...?! does it help....?

Re: Power Window troubleshooting help needed

Sorry it took so long to reply. NO, the replacement motor did not do the trick: Same symptoms. (Yes, it goes up quickly WHEN it goes up.) I now seem to think it is the driver switch assembly. Bought some contact cleaner at Home Depot, and without completely disassembling the switch, sprayed it very liberally, then shook it out, and let it dry for a while. Issue seems to have gotten a bit better, but quite frankly I'm going to avoid using the window (rear window, plus winter is coming anyway). We'll see... Electrical problems suck.

If you have to "hold the button down at an angle", then it is definately a mechanical problem with the switch. Cleaning may do it, perhaps not.

GO RED SOX!

Cool

The problem in my opinion, GM window switches on all these vechicles are all junk, they loose connection and wiggle loose from use. Seen this happen on 2000, 2001, 2002 impala, malibu, grand prix, grand am, and most of the trucks also. My two cents ........

Re: Power Window troubleshooting help needed

Give them some cheese! (you know the old saying "do you want some cheese w/ your whine).
Anyway sound like the motors are drying out and I think, if I remember right this usually leads to the window motor siezes up hopefully it will be in the up position.
