you can put a turbo on the n/a engine but you cant run any credible amount fo boost. read the sticky's for the TT swap.

also, RB swap is definitely doable. your best bet is a rb25det. its gonna cost money though.

With a 300ZX you are far better off keeping the VG engine it came with. The VG30DETT can handle 500rwhp on stock internals and has the ultimate potential for 1500+ hp. A VG under the hood makes a RB swap irrelevant unless you are just trying to be unique. Also, it is much easier to buy a Twin Turbo 300ZX then to try and make one.

[important]They built turbocharged 300ZXs so you wouldn't have to[/important]

So, save your money, buy the Twin Turbo and be much happier.

If you really got buy the NA and swap in a Twin turbo engine, then I refer you to the appropriate sticky at the top of the forum.

... Yea... Stick with the VG.

Although they are a little bit tougher to work on, as apposed to the Racing Breed engines... They can handle some damn horsepower

VG30DE, the engine code for the motor in the Non-turbo Z32 300ZX.

VG30DETT, the engine code for the motor in the Twin turbo Z32 300ZX.

Nissan engine codes:

VG: The first two letters are the block designation, which particular engine design the code refers to. VG, RB, KA, VQ, etc...

30: The size of the engine as measured in liters of displacement. In this case, 3.0 liters.

D: refers to dual overhead cams

E: refers to electronically controlled fuel injection

T: refers to turbocharged. In this case, two Ts, two turbos.

Re: Will sumone help me on a engine swap question for a 300zx?plz...

Here is a more elaborate broken down version...

Lets use the Skyline RB26DETT for example:

RB - Factory code, rumored to stand for Racing Bred

26 - Size of engine, in this case, 2.6

D - DOHC (Dual Over Head Camshafts)

E - ECCS (Electronic Concentrate Control System)

T - Twin

T - Turbos

Broke you were correct and all, I just had to elaborate because Im like that

Also, any Nissan code that starts with a V (VG (300ZedX's) VE (Maxima early generation) VQ (most Nissans today, 350Z, Altima, Maxima, etc) VK (Titan, Armada) etc ) Signifies a V Aligned engine... V6 V8

its all simple once you get it...

Only after snorting a few lines. Actually thats widely available information that anyone can pick up if they look around. A smart person would be taking Fuchinomo calculations to the next level.

Might not be as much as you would think. Call the company you use now, then call around to some other places.

Re: Will sumone help me on a engine swap question for a 300zx?plz...

Save... buy a TT...

For the extra 'COOL' factor... buy an NA 2+2 (they only came NA here in the US... but came TT in Japan) and do the TT conversion... IMO it's not really worth it to TT a Coupe since they already came in TT form!

For extra-EXTRA 'COOLNESS'.... swap in a RB series engine! An RB25DET or RB26DETT will bolt onto the VG (TT) drivetrain/driveshaft but you will be stuck fabricating some mounts for the engine. It has been done before in Japan... but it will be uncharted lands over here. Be prepared to spend close $10K!

Or you could always stick it out with a VG30DE (NA) and stroke and bottle-feed it like yours truly....
