Transmission prob with 94 T-Bird
Im having a problem with my t-bird its like when it shifts it shifts really hard and sometimes it dont wanna go u gotta floor it a bit and then its jumpy shifting outta first and second Other gears are smooth i filled all fluids up and theres no leak of any kind i even put some transmission treatment in it and still its shifting hard.. what should i do? and another thing sometimes when im driving the OverDrive off Light comes on and starts blinking but yet i can turn it off and it still does it any ideas on that?? This is my first car im 16 btw i dont have my license yet but me and my dad share the car i drive my parents or friends around in it.. i just want it to be a good car for me when i get my license in december so im doing what i can to work out the probs if someone could give me a little info thatd be good i appreciate it.. Thanks in advance.. also one more thing b4 i forget somethings wrong with my air conditioner & Heat they wont come out of the vents it comes outta the Defrosters any ideas of what that might be? anyway thanks again...

I really dont know about any of those things, but I'd recommend that instead of flooring it when it wont shift, just give it a little more time. Flooring it will help it change gears faster, but it will also wear on the transmission a hell of a lot faster. My transmission does the same thing into third gear sometimes, and flooring it is the worst thing you can possibly do. Once you notice that it should have shifted already, just let off the gas it wait for the shift. In my very non professional opinion, it sounds like you need a new transmission. What does everyone else here think?

Yeah i guess i will have to get a new one was hoping there was some way around that but maybe i can find one for a good price and someone to put it in for a decent price my dad is gonna put 4 new tires on it so thats gonna help me out a little bit but i still need a job so i can get a tranny for it.. I appreciate ur response Thanks!

Your 1-2 accumulator may be shot. As far as the a/c heater issue, may have a vacuum leak somewhere. Default is to blow out the defrost ducts.

I'm also having a trany problem,well i think it is any way..... when it gets into higher gears it won't accel any more just revs up and don't go any faster, i have to feather the gas to get it to shift, very frustrating, plz help, and it doesn't do it as much when it is cold!

Have you tried flushing your tranny fluid? making sure it's full is one thing, but completely flushing is another. Might be worth a shot. Just go buy the filter and some fluid.
Having it done by Jiffy Lube costs about 70 bucks, but doing it yourself is only about 25 (unless you have that electric type tranny, for which the filter is a lot more expensive).

yep filter and fluid. and when you want the car to shift right, left off the gas like its a manual car that relives the stress on it, or atleast with my bird. Your having the same problem that my mom had with her 02' Explorer.. Ford could never find the problem... im thinkin its the fluid, old fluid can be the cause of many tranny problemz.

On todays modern trannies it is unnecessary to let up on the gas to let it shift. If you have to do that, there is something wrong with the tranny. If that Explorer is under warranty, they should drop in a new tranny.
Check out my first reply. If the seals on the accumulator are shot, it can't build the pressure needed to shift to 2nd....

I just got done changing out my tranny fluid and filter. It took me about 2 hours, but I was being very careful not to let any debris get inside of the exposed tranny, and also took steel wool and a wire brush to the pan. The only thing I had trouble with was getting the gasket to stay lined up with the holes as I tried to put the pan back on, but even that wasn't that big of a deal once I moistened the gasket it with some transmission fluid so it would stick to the pan better - kinda like oiling the O-ring on an oil filter.
Overall, I feel it was worth saving the 40 bucks by doing it myself, especially since I don't think that the jiffy lube people would have been half as meticulous as I was. Besides that, there's just something fulfilling about doing stuff like this yourself. Hope this helps!
