Forward in reverse.. very bad?

I was dropping a friend off the other night and I was backing up a slight hill to turn around.. anyways, at the top of the hill my phone started ringing. I answered and let off the brake by accident, and started rolling forward down the hill (the clutch was still fully depressed, however). Needless to say I dropped the phone and put it in the neutral position.


So how badly did I just mess up my tranny?

is the car broken do u feel a difference in anythign?if not then it should be ok but if u cant get in a gear or something then thats another story

Well I have always had a little trouble getting into reverse.. there are times when I have to try a few times before it will go in.. other times it goes in just fine.

thats normal reverse has no synchro. if u want to get into reverse easy park ur car in first gear or when u start ur car put the car in first gear move up a little bit dont have to be much like an inch ill do and then put it in reverse. if the car has no problem then more then likely u didnt break anything

Yeah or let the car roll back a tiny bit, brake and then put it in reverse. I have to do that a lot to get it into gear (or I slam it in there which I'm guessing is bad).

i always find the easyest way in a hurry to get in reverse is to hold the stick applying slight pressure toward reverse and ease out the clutch it will move in real easy... and then your ready to go...

Ive Heard Of A Trick That Might Help U With This Problem. Like Snowman Said Synchronizing The Clutch. I Learned From A Freind That Hondas Have A Trick To The Trans. Push The Clutch Put It In 2nd Gear Then Throw It To Reverse. Try It And Let Me Know.

If the clutch was in then he wouldnt have messed anything up id think. There wasnt anything engaged to mess up.

Rolling in gear is perfectly fine unless you're rolling into another car or a pole or something When the clutch is disengaged, you're basically in neutral no matter what gear the stick is in. There is no force against the gears, just like being in first gear on a hill and rolling backwards before you release the clutch. Its not the best thing to do, but it won't hurt in small intervals. So just make sure you don't throw the car in reverse, push in the clutch, and go rolling down 30ft inclines

even if you did let go of the clutch it'd be just the same as stalling out the motor.. as long as the gears are engaged and your foot is on the clutch you won't do any damage to the tranny. unless you hear some serious grinding or funny noises from the tranny you're fine.. most you would do is wear off clutch material.. which you do everyday you drive the car. I have had an instance in my 99' accord lx I was driving along in 3rd gear about to shift into 4th... put the clutch in, and took it out of 3rd, and could'nt shift into any other gear... pulled off to the side of the road, took a look under the hood with the car shut off, nothing was leaking, and could'nt see anything wrong with the linkage (with what I could see of it)... went back in the car, started it up, and it's driven perfectly ever since...
