Question Electrical Problems

I have a 90 Buick Riviera that I purchased not too long ago. When I bought this car I noticed that the interior lights did not come on when the doors opened nor did the power locks work. The remote keyless entry worked fine but for only a week. The locks worked when shifting into drive and I'm sure they are run through the same relay. Yesterday as I was driving, the interior lights came on and wouldn't go off. I had to end up pulling the fuse on the accessories. Other than taking it into the dealer ($$$$$), can anybody help me out with a solution!

Riv Electrical Problem Possible Fix !

Hi! I had the same kind of problem with the interior lights and kept blowing fuses. After several weeks of taking things apart, I took apart the center console. There is a light that is used to illuminate the ash tray in the console. I found a screw sticking down from the console had scratched off the insulation on the wire for this one small light and was shorting out through the console to ground and blowing the fuse. I put some black tape on the wire and cut the tip of the screw that was hanging down, with my side cutter pliers. This solved my problem. The center console disassembly will take some time. So be ready to dedicate a Saturday Morning for the job. Hope this helps you out. All the best. Ray in New Hampshire !
