Unhappy 97 Transport cooling fans

The cooling fans only come on when the AC is used. If the AC is not used neither fan will operate. The cooling fan relays (3),fuses, coolant sensor, and fans check ok individually. I suspect open wiring or bad PCM. Can anyone shed further light on this matter? Thankyou!

..something is missing here....do you mean the car OVERHEATS and the fans never operate (except is AC is ON) ?

The Temp. gauge does go to about 210 degrees while idling but of course lowers when the van is moving. At no time do the fan(s) come on without the AC.

Sounds like a bad temperature sensor. Change it out and everything should be fine.

Re: 97 Transport cooling fans

..there are 2 coolant temperature sensors, aren't ? One gor the gauge a,d one for the PCM. (Otherwise the info that appears on the gauge would be fed to the computer too and it would fire the fans)...so, be sure to change the appropriate sensor. I've not the information on the location for the 3.4
