D15Z1 swap into 91 civic
I just got a D15Z1 for free, and I want to put it in my 91 civic winter car. I realize its obd1 to obd0 and vtec into a non vtec chassis, has anyone done this or know much about it?

Re: D15Z1 swap into 91 civic
Yes I am trying to find some info for this swap in my cousins 91 hatch.
He has the d15z1 vtec-e motor and we used his 5 speed tranny that we converted from the automatic. We had to change the driverside mount that is attached to the side of the motor where the timing belt is. We were told that we would need the resistor box but then soon found out that the injectors are high impediance injectors and that there is no need for a resistor box. The important thing that I had to figure out myself that was contradictory to every swap info I found on this motor is that you must run new injector wires to pins a1 a2 a3 and a5 on the ecu from the injectors if your car originally was wired for the dpfi which only has two injectors. The o2 sensor we recieved with the car is a 5 wire and we got a 4 wire at the junk yard and we still have to wire it up. I'm confused about the egr valve solenoid?? I think we're just going to get rid of it or plug it up or something and just hope the car runs ok. The map sensor is confusing to me. I have the schematic but I'm not sure of which wires go to what pins on the ecu due to the fact our harness plug we found that fits the map sensor has different wire colors. We're going to the junkyard to look at and chase down wires on an obd1 civic and that will tell me what wires and where. We had to extend the wires on the obd0 harness for the knock sensor, iac valve, and coolant sensor on the manifold. The throttle positioning sensor plugged right in though. The wires on the obd0 wires matched the wires on the obd1 harness so we just cut and soldered according to color and it worked fine. Two wires were left which were the cam positioning sensor wires. They were both blue with stripes on them. I had to run those directy to the ecu. We also had the obd0 to obd1 conversion harness. Also we had to change his crank pully to utilize his power stearing pump because the crank pully on his z1 didn't have a grove for a single v belt. We have it running now but we havn't set the timing or hooked up the o2 sensor or map sensor and we have a couple manifold leaks. It just got too late and can't work on it until the weekend so hopefully we get it running good this weekend. Hope this helps. |

Re: D15Z1 swap into 91 civic
Good info but check post dates. This is from 2004. This guy has probably long since dealt with this.
