Take SR20DE and make it into DET?
Can i go to a junk yard pull out the SR20DE out of a nissan sentra or something, and then rebuild the hole thing with low compression pistons , put a turbo on it, and it will be SR20DET? then throw that bad boy in my 240sx and walla!! wouldnt even have to order it from japan... i know im a genius, but seriously

you'd still have to find a sr20det trannie, and ill be willing to bet they are almost as much as the entire front clip, once you get everything you need i think you would be at the same price if not more, and alot more time and effort.

Re: Take SR20DE and make it into DET?
GT500916, why couldn't you ask these 3 questions in the same thread?? they're all about the exact same topic! that way you won't get any holes in your answers.. just getting frustrating having to read 3 different posts by the same person about the same thing.

Re: Take SR20DE and make it into DET?
here's something that might help... there are other things you might need to consider... such as internals...
"copy & paste" The DET has oil squirter piston coolers The DET has a bigger oil pump. The DET has a different front pulley. The DET has lower compression pistons (8.3:1 vs 9.5:1). The DET has bigger injectors. The DET has direct ignition. The DET has a variable intake cam, runs retarded at idle, advanced mid range and retarded top end. The DET has mechanical shim in bucket type lifters with a slightly bigger in duration exhaust cam. |

ya isnt the sentra motor mount differently then the 240sx
its mounted sideways it sounds like a good idea but would probly cost more |

Re: Take SR20DE and make it into DET?
you could probaly do it, but it may or may not bolt onto your transmission. there are turbo kits avaiable for it. would definitly be easier to get a jdm engine shipped to you.

well the only reason i did 3 threads is because most people miss half the question in the thread...
first it was ... if i can do it question second was .... what cars have it and third.... what is the difference so i didnt ask same question 3 times, but just to make sure i get both questions answered... i get frustrated when if i ask some few questions and half of them are missed. like one of the questions that was missed for example.. is why do some people say that if you get the SR20DET engine nobody knows how to work on it here in the US, but its pretty much the same engine as the SR20DE, the only few differences is the turbo, its sideways and a few upgrades to produce more power and be cooled off better. or is it those upgraded parts in the DET that DE doesnt have that are not available here in the states and thats why people wont work on it here? |

Re: Take SR20DE and make it into DET?
well i would imagine there are internal differences. But basic things they could do, like alternater, starter, maybe head gasket, but they may replace the broken part with something weaker or different. I wouldnt want just "any" mechanic to touch my engine. Maybe take it to a performance shop.

the front wheel drive ECU wont work either.

i dont trust anyone with my cars, i dont care how many years they been working on cars. I just dont trust paint shops, tranny shops, engine shops, whatever, because i not only worked in those places and know whats going on, its just that nobody knows my cars like i do. So i ONLY trust myself... so i wouldnt take my Sr20DEt anywhere, and assuming the internals are diferent on SR20DE to the DET im thinking the only place i would be able to get the DEt parts is from Japan, unless i go for the aftermarket Turbo low pistons for the DE here in the US? i know i will be able to get performance parts here in the US for the DE engine and possibly make it faster and stronger than the DET, so im guessing i can get anything for the DE here in the states, unless i want the exact internals as the DET engine. Am i correct?

the front wheel drive part doesnt even mean anything... all it is is a different tranny... pull the SR20DE out of a sentra rebuild it internally, put a turbo on it, put the tranny in the 240sx and get a SR20DET tranny and a few other needed things and ready to go.

Re: Take SR20DE and make it into DET?
yea seriously it would cost more to do what your talking about you might as well just order a front clip cause u would still have to get motor mounts a new tranny and all that other stuff that was mentioed above so u arent a genius like u thought u were after all
