2000 cougar wont start

I tried to start the cougar...but it dont turn over...it just makes clicking sound when I turn key..

battery seems to be in working order since every thing works...

the car has run fine..and this is the first sign of any trouble...

Oh...I dont know nothing about cars...I just had the car alligned yesterday...could that have done something to cause this problem??

and also.....could a faulty alarm system prevent the car from starting?

one more thing....the RPM and MPH needles....have been going crazy in other words..they peek out to the max....but the engine always sounded fine....and did not idle fast..when first starting...

Your battery can seem OK but infact it could be bad. I would have that tested and make sure the battery cables are tight and clean.

It was the battery

I am not the swiftest when it comes to cars...so I figured it couldnt be the battery because the lights worked and the horn was blasting...etc...

No problem. People do not realize that the batteries are the number one problem with cars. They usually create voltage spikes which really screws up things in a hurry!
