timing issues!!

MOTHER FUCKER!

so, i tried to start my car today and its idleing up and down then it went to about 300 rpm and ran rough and back fired a couple times, it smells like gas, check, rotors fine, didnt come loose, which only means the fucking timing belt slipped a tooth i'm gonna take the wheel off and check everything out, if its all aligned properly, what the fuck am i gonna do? i hate this car now!!!!

this blows ass! noone helps out and gives advice on anything technical rarely anymore, i fixed the timing belt issue i think but it back fires on one cylinder it sounds like, before today i started it and it had a surging idle up and down, then it got worse and felt like it was running on a couple cylinders, now its running ok then backfiring at the exact same time all the time, i dont get this fucking piece of shit, i'm seriously considering selling the whole car or dropping the d15b2 back in because that motor was a hell of a lot more reliable then this thing, not even 1000 kms on it and its giving me trouble

Re: timing issues!!

Sorry to hear your troubles..I wish I knew something about the DOHC's but I have no idea. I would reset the crank/cam timing just like you did the first time and start over again. Like put the cam gears up straight (or where ever they are supposed to be at TDC) then line the crankshaft up TDC again. Start over. You have a timing light right?

yea it runs now but now it doesnt go anywhere while under load, i can have my foot to the floor and it slowly climbs up with the rpms, so i'm thinking it wasnt the intake cam that slipped a tooth, i think it was the exhaust cam

yea i'm thinking about it but i also need a way to get around, i noticed the head is leaking oil out so i'm pulling it apart and re-torque the head down to try and fix it, i think thats why it has no power, and the head gasket shouldnt be bad because its only been on the car for 2 weeks now

Re: timing issues!!

Damn man, my DOHC ZC swap was easy. Where did you get your motor from? Mine backfired the first time it started up but it was the wiring for the exhaust cam angle sensor.

i bought my motor off a guy who bought it from a shop but the guy was moving so he sold it to me to get rid of it, motor was fine for the first 950kms and now its not running great, i think the headgasket might be fucked or the timings off, I dunno

i aligned both the cam marks in the middle as best as i could, there not 100% but there close, and both up marks are pointing up not down lol, but i cant get my harmonic balancer off so i dont know where the mark is on the block and that gear for TDC so were doing the screw-driver method in the clyinder

and my car did that too, reved slowly and didnt really go anywhere and back fired once

Re: timing issues!!

check the mark on the pulley against the mark on the timing cover. set the bottom end in TDC first, then check the cams. If one or both is off, loosen the tensioner and set both cams at TDC. put it all back together, rotate the engine a couple of turns counter clockwise, tighten the tensioner, and be done.
