Is this illegal?

Is it illegal to flick off a cop? There were actually times when I was doing the limit, and driving safely, and I see a cop on the side of the road with a laser gun. I just wanted to stick my finger through the sunroof soo bad. Is that illegal? Is there anything they can do, if you're obeying the law?

Re: Is this illegal?

prolly the only thing that they would try would be public indencincy (definatly didnt spell that right), i would think tha would be all, and the fact that the cops in the area would be waiting for you to screw up so they could bust you, thats all

Re: Is this illegal?

the only way you could get in trouble for honking is if you lay on the horn. if he almost caused an accident let him pull you over, u have your reasons to honk and you let him know why.

Re: Is this illegal?

did your friend get the charge dropped? I mean it seems kind of stupid. It's not assault, you don't even touch the officer

I wouldn't flip off a cop, theres just no reason to take a chance.

I know about cops pulling out in front of people though. I was driving one day and i was doing 45 in a 25 and as i come to the top of a hill, this cop comes over from the other direction and does a u turn right behind me and in front of my friend who is following me. my friend hits his brakes and turns right, clips the right rear of the cops car, bounces over the curb, through the speed limit sign and slides through a muddy field where his car gets stuck. Needless to say, i got out of the ticket.

Re: Is this illegal?

Well, I always thought it wasn't assault until I actually looked up the word.

as·sault:
1 a : a violent physical or verbal attack b : a military attack usually involving direct combat with enemy forces c : a concerted effort (as to reach a goal or defeat an adversary)
2 a : a threat or attempt to inflict offensive physical contact or bodily harm on a person (as by lifting a fist in a threatening manner) that puts the person in immediate danger of or in apprehension of such harm or contact -- compare BATTERY 1b b : RAPE

Well, giving someone the middle doesn't imply harm. We all know what it means. So I'm still a little ify about an assault charge but people have been arrested for bullshit crimes before. Why stop there?

Although, no matter what, its never a good idea to give a cop the middle finger. Cops, as we know, can make your life a living hell. I always try to be respectful because showing respect will get you into less trouble than mouthing off to a cop.

Re: Is this illegal?

The smartest thing to do is not mess around with cops. If you hate them for whatever stupid reason you do then only talk about it, dont give em the finger, don't piss of their dogs, don't do anything against them. You may hate them but once in your life they'll do a good thing for you.

You say that as though they're out specifically to get you. It's not like they can gauge your speed by simply looking at your car. I don't get insulted when the cops point their radar at me when I'm doing the speedlimit, I just drive by normally because I know he is doing his job.

The cop is only doing his job... what if someone broke into your house would you want to flip him off then when he shows up to investigate?

and as far as it being legal...you would more then likely get arrested for disorderly conduct.

Re: Is this illegal?

I'm a Chicago Police Officer, and if you did that in Chicago, you would definately get stopped and asked what your F'n problem was, but you can not get charged with anything unless your suspeneded or revoked or even drunk. I suggest you just keep your finger in the car!

Re: Is this illegal?

The middle finger means "fuck you". So just cuz you flip a cop off doesent mean you wanna fuck them. Cops are just lil crybabies.
