boost gauge hookup? I need help!

Hey I am new to this forum
I need to know a couple things about how to hookup a boost gauge
Okey, first its a Greddy 60mm gauge (mechanical) so there is only 3 lines/wires, one for 12v light source, one to negative chasis ground, and one for the actual ground. Oh yeah and the car is a zenki rps13 hatch withe a redtop sr20det. I hooked it up earlier today by just teeing it off to the blowoff valve vaccum line as reccomended by gushi auto. Is this right? I heard some people tee it off at the fuel pressure regulator line, but I don't know. Also, where do you wire it to a 12v light source? And how? I have next to none wiring experience and i dunno how to sauter. Also, at idle the gauge reads below the zero, is this normal?
Thanks in advance

Re: boost gauge hookup

1. I'd put the tee in the fuel pressure regulator line.
2. Wire the light source wire to any ignition switched 12 volt wire. It will automaticly light up when the ignition is in the on position
3. Best connection - soilder the wire. You can but soildering irons for like 5 bucks at walmart. They are really easy to use. If you don't wanna do then then just splice the wires that you want to connect, twist them together, and then cover with electrical tape.
4. Yes, it should read below zero, it's in vacuum.

Hey thanks alot, but why put the tee in the fuel pressure regulator line?
If I am going to do this, I am going to need more vaccum hose, and the I have only found a few places to buy this, and its from HKS, it will still work as long as it's the correct mm right? Also, would it be okay to splice it to the illumination wire from the gauges? If not how do tell if a wire is a 12v ignition switched wire?

Why do you even bother replying? I just like to make sure I know what to do before I do it, this gives me a better chance of not messing up my car...well duh

what i would do ( and i did ) was hooked the power wire to the dimmer. so this way the light only turns on when i turn on the head lights. i can also adjust the brightness of the guage with the dimmer. and also you wo'tn have to worry about the bulb burning out for always being on.

to do this take your dash apart, find the dimmer knob. take a test light, hook the negetive part of the test light to ground ( a good ground with no paint and clean surface ) then probe each wire until you see the light go on ( with the head lights turned on ) to retest, turn off head light and see if the test light goes off with the head light ). then just cut a small piece of the insulator off with a razor, then loop the wire and then cover it with electrical tape. and your done. ( with the positive part atleast )

i dont understand why you need 2 grounds though. thas kinda dumb if you ask me.
