03 dakota cuts out at 95 mph

got a 2003 dakota 4.7L with a 5-speed automatic. gets to 95 really quickly yet cuts out at 95. i've tried turning off overdrive but it still cuts out at 95.
If you know how to get rid of this please help! would like to see how fast and can go

That's called the governer. The government makes manufacturers regulate the speed of the vehicle so you don't out-run your tires. There's no way to turn it off unless you buy aftermarket parts for it. But I'm not sure if that will void your warranty or not.

Probably have to get one of those go-fast chips. Check your dealer for warranty questions.

I agree with Bleed, right now your truck does 95. That's what you can tell the officer.

Re: 03 dakota cuts out at 95 mph

The transmission governor has nothing to do with your top speed. the engine computer has a speed limiter built into the programming. Your 4.7L with the 5 speed auto is the new generation of RWD dodge great tranny so far. There is no governer on these its all computer controled.

STUPID QUESTION TIME!

Does the 96' Dakota have a governor?

I've never had the chance to top it out.

Yes, there is but I surely don't know what speed it's limited to.
