Thumbs up how is that an "upgrade"

i was reading up on all the posts about alternators and the problems we all have with em, and someoone said they put an Altima Alt. in there Z32 and said it was an "upgrade" ? i just wandered how that was better than just a new Z32 alt. ? thanks alot, and i also need to replace my alt. and i was thinkin that would be a good time to put a UD pulley on at the same time ?? any input would be great, thanks alot

Re: how is that an "upgrade"

i have heard a lot of z guys putting altima alternators on their z. supposedly it gives out more juice, so i guess it could be considered an upgrade.

Re: how is that an "upgrade"

I think the Maxima Altenator is better suited for the VG... So I've been told.

what year altima???

since the altima has less of an engine and probably a few more cigarette lighters and power windows, nissan probably put a more powerful alternator in it. an alternator flows so many amps at so many RPMs. i think the 300zx is like 60amps at 3000rpms. which isnt a very powerful alternator. the altima probably flows soemthing like 80 amps at 3000RPMs which is alot better. usually, they put smaller alternators in more powerful engines because it puts less strain on the motor.

Re: how is that an "upgrade"

awesome thanks guys, so say i need to replace mine, you guys seem to think id be a good idea to put an altima or maxima alt. on it, i just wanted to know what year of each of those models, and do they just fit right up or is there custom fitting in order ?? (if so thats not a problem), I looked at the ones from autozone, and the 300zx one was 80 amp, and the maxima one was 100 amp, so yeah that is a bit better, and thanks alot guys your awesome

if it doesnt fit directly in then you can custom make some brackets. i did it on my old car. not hard at all.

also, if you need a new alternator, there are alternator shops that will rebuild your current alternator into a like a 120 amp alt. for less money than buying a brand new one.
