Unhappy Please give me your expert opinions...

I'm 16 and I just bought a '93 Chevrolet Cavalier 2D coupe. It has 74,000 miles and I bought it for 1800. Now the day that I finally pick it up from the seller, it runs great....until I get to the gas station. I fill it up with gas, and go to turn the engine on and it won't even start. My dad and I were stranded at this gas station for four hours until a tow truck came and took it to the mechanic. The mechanic said it was the battery and serpentine (sp?) belt. So I got a new battery and serpentine belt for 200. So I get the car back and it's running great! I get it washed, wax it and take it out for a spin. My dad and I go to Firestone to get the oil changed and transmission fluid changed and engine coolant changed. This all came to around 100-150, I believe (the receipts aren't handy right now). So I start up the car but I notice a noise everytime I brake. It sounds like clanging in the back of the car. My dad and I take a ride and my Dad thinks it's just the exahust system is loose and thats what the clanging is. We come to a stop sign and the car dies on us. We have to coast back to our house. I've had the car two days and I wish I never had the damn thing. Is it still worth trying to get fixed? Please give me some advice....
Thanks
Rich

Re: Please give me your expert opinions...

Stalling during decelleration is often the TCC solenoid. It may be unplugged safely. The plug is located under the air filter on the front of the transmission. If this cure the stalling you may leave it as is. Repair is about $40 parts and $150 labor.

As for the clanging in the rear. It could be exhaust, a visual inspection should find it. Repair=cheap. It may also be in the brakes. There is a small square spring located on the parking brake crossbar inside the rear drums. There is one on each side of the car. These will make a VERY solid clunk if broken. A repair kit can be found at any parts store. Good Luck.
