Air bags are not a problem!!

I'm sick and tired of hearing people bad mouth the Lincoln Air suspension, I've had an '89 lincoln Mark 7 for 10 years and NEVER had a problem with any part of the suspension!! It's the most comfortable ride I own. Just because a few people had trouble, some folks go around making a world-wide assumption!!!

Re: Air bags are not a problem!!

I personally just dont care for air bags. Never did never will. I did the conversion on my 93 mark and Im happy with it. The air bags that I had always leaked for some reason so I just replaced them with the coil overs. I dont bad mouth the air bags, I just think they arnt as dependable as a spring. On some cars air bags are awsome. Such as low riders that bounce around and all that. Air bags are great for those cars.

And yes some people have great luck with them, others dont. I just happened to have bad luck with mine so instead of correcting it I replaced it.

Re: Air bags are not a problem!!

On my Town Car their a "must have" on the rears for certain!!

I'm a family man, not that I like to have the whole family in the car messin it up but, the varying weight differences from full load of passengers, and the fuel tank level, there's no spring made that can keep my rear end level with the changing conditions.

I also love the sofa-like ride too.

Can't speak for you guys in your Mark VIII's though.... I imagine you could get better handling with a stiffer ride, and no OEM bags.

Re: Air bags are not a problem!!

Air suspension is definately the most luxurious ride available. I don't think you could find anyone that would dispute that. But, however many people that are out there, that like yourself, have never had air suspension problems, I can find 10 times that amount that have. Every car with air suspension will eventually run into costly repairs for that air suspension whether they replace through the dealer or through an aftermarket company. This is not a matter of if your air suspension will fail but a matter of when. It wouldn't be a major issue if you were the original owner of the vehicle and after 10 years you had to get it replaced. But most of these vehicles are owned by people who bought them used for good deal. It's hard to tell someone to spend $3,000 to fix a car they only paid five for last month. As in everything there are pros and cons. I don't think it's a matter of people bad mouthing the air suspension as it is people bad mouthing there bad experiences with the air suspenison. Just my two cents.

towncar you could get gabrial hi-jacker shocks that are adjustable and you can jack your rear end up alot more then it is. I have them on my caddy and when I put them on I had to max them out just to see how super fly it looked.

No Way !! I have two sets of jackers on other cars, and thats just what their for, jacking for a load. They also ride stiff as hell. But that's ok for where their installed, not on my luxury car.

All I need, is to keep the car level when the load changes. My Town Car handles all that just fine on its own.

It may be prudent to add, I'm in Southern California. It's never too hot, or cold and I really don't drive that much in the TC.. I'm at 48k miles since 1996 ......

My point is, the elements that normally take out these systems don't really apply to me, except for maybe "dry-rot" and age cracking. I know I'll be replacing the bags sometime soon, but not the system.

Im not knocking you guys, in fact I think you've made some very good points regarding dependability, It's just not for me.

I get compliments every time someone gets into the TC, I'm even very impressed myself after having it sit for awhile while I drive around in other "gas mileage" vehicles... ie PT Cruiser, Camry, Grand Cherokee, Caravan, F250, then I also ride a 550 and 1000 Kawasaki too...

Then I take the TC for a drive.... awsome car.
