Angry electrical

When you turn on the headlights the dash lights dont come on untill you put the fuse in but when you do that the radio and heater control lights go out. Also when you shut the car off and turn off the headlights all the lights go off untill you open the door then the guage lights come back on and stay on unless you pull the fuse. If anyone can give me any help that would be appreciated. Also sometimes when you get on the gas hard the dome light will flash on. Has anyone had that problem before?

Re: electrical

You've got some seriously narfed up wiring someplace!! I'd start with any new item installed (stereo, amp) and if there isn't anything new, I'd look for wiring interfering with accelerator pedal linkage, and chase the gauge cluster wiring from the cluster to the fuse box, there has to be a rub there someplace. Check for any broken ground wires in the interior as well.

Re: electrical

More I think about this, it could all be related to a bad headlight/dimmer switch. All the affected items run power through this switch. I'd start there. Some contacts may have fallen apart, and are now crossed up inside it.

Re: electrical

I agree with Jeff, sounds like a "narfed up" ignition switch

Re: electrical

Hey guys! I AGREE 100 percent! I have 1 97 Lumina that BRAKE LIGHTS that quit all of a sudden. The MIDDLE back window BRAKE kight worked fine. Upon checking all the bulbs and wiring i found that if i PULLED back on the DIMMER switch WHILE my foot was on the brake pedal the BRAKE lights came on! So i figure it WAS the DIMMER/TURN SIGNAL SWITCH!!!

Thumbs down Re: electrical

I am writing to find out if any one can tell me what the hell is going on with my lumina. We are having some major problems with our 1996 chevy lumina LS. First the blinkers and cruise controle stoped working. Then the transmition started acting up we found out that a plasitic vaulve was broke and needs to be replaced. Now today we have no brake lights. All the bulbs are fine, and fuses. So what the hell is going on with this car, i am starting to think the lumina is an another word for lemon. If any one can help please email me at [email protected] thank you J
