Talking 97 Exhaust

Alright guys, I'm brand new to this forum! Well, I JUST got my T-bird, I'm 16 and It's a 97 BLACK 4.6L. It's got every option and 23,000 miles.
The first thing I want to do to my car.....is make it sound beautiful. I know nothing of car performance mods...I'm an audio guy. I want to hear the power of this V-8, and I dont know how to get that! Basically, I dont even know which parts I need to replace to get this sound, just the muffler? or all the way to back to the cat. converter?
I'm looking for a dual exhaust, chrome look- Power to be heard.

ANY help and suggestions are appreciated. I'm getting this done under the table at a shop....but I have no idea what parts/company/system I need!

Re: 97 Exhaust

I love the sound of the 4.6 with no mufflers, and I know others who like the same sound.

Re: 97 Exhaust

you got a LX right? probably well, take out the Air resonator if you dont know much about engine and mechanics like that theres all kinds of webpages with directions. Get a new intake and i agree i love the sound of any ford with no muffflers, but the thing is pretty much each state has sound laws of how loud ur exhaust can be and the cops want it to sound pretty much stock. So with a louder car comes more attention (good) but cops(BAD)...haha yep

Exhaust

Alright, now, if I had the muffler taken off- then I would need to have more piping added, right? This would also need to be done at shop- right? How loud if loud? I dont want this to sound like an old hot rod, how would the sound of my 4.6L compare to the common day Mustang GT?

THANKS GUYS!!!

Re: 97 Exhaust

you should have your shop put on a true dual exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers. You will sound nicer than a GT mustang. You probably have 3 cats. If you are having this done under the table, they will probably remove all the cats if you want, but thats up to you, depending on how paranoid you want to be of the cops. I would at least take off the 3rd catalytic converter (thats necessary anyways for true dual). You should also get a new intake put on the car too. If you have both done at once, you will notice a huge difference. I prefer doing things one at a time so I can feel what each has done. Go with exhaust first because it will help the most, and plus, once you put your intake on, it will make a bigger difference since you've got a custom exhaust. You can probably do the intake by yourself, but yes, all the exhaust work will have to be done at the shop. If you just remove the 3rd cat and replace your mufflers they can use most of your factory piping, but if you go with true dual, they will need to use all new piping... more expensive.

Re: 97 Exhaust

man u can ride around without mufflers aint no problem... the only thing is that the cops will be always on you that you'll get a lot of tickets.. and you cant really put a silencer on pipes. so go with a flowmaster Cat-back and a intake. I'd say MAC performance i have pretty much the same ride as you and the MAc is good for show and go. Good Luck with that new license dont get pulled over, insurance is a b1tch
