Port And Polish

can someone define port and polish for me?? what does this accomplish powerwise?? where can i get it done?? and how much does it cost??

port and polishing is doing exactly what it says. its not too hard to figure out what polishing is. its polishing out the inside of something like ur intake manifold or exhaust but it is limited to as far as the machine shop that is doing it can reach. Extrude honing is better it pushes abrasive paste thru the inside surfaces at high pressures to polish out the insides and make them smooth so air (or exhaust, whatever) can flow a lot easier. Besides adding turbos or nos, the only way everyone is gettin power is addin stuff like headers, exhaust, intake, pulleys. they have one thing in common, efficiency. All of those things help the engines efficiency making it have to work a lot less to push out the exhaust, breath in the intake charge, rotate the pulleys, etc. so porting and polishing helps by making it easier to intake or expel gas and therefore increasing your engines efficiency. it costs about $4-500 to have ur intake manifold extrude honed... so id estimate port and polishing is less. Machine shops that do stuff like engine balancing and such will do it.

well simply put it makes more air in motor. cost can vary greatly.

More air in the motor from a P&P job and more air =more power.

Yea actually, its the efficiency that gives u the power. it doesnt ADD more power persay, just frees up power. it might bring in a small amount more air, but the power increase you feel is from the freeing up of power not more air lol. more air = more power ... was he asking about a turbo or a port and polish LOL!
