Pop Up Camper Wiring Help Needed
Hi Everyone,
This is my first message. I have a jayco pop up that has a six wire plug. My 2005 Astro has eight wires: green, light green, yellow, brown, white, another white, but twice as big, orange, and blue. Does anyone know which color of wire on the Astro does what, and how I should connect it to my 7 wire recepticle? Thanks for your help in advance. WillScarletMacaw |

Wait a minute. Ok, so you have a 6 wire plug, 8 wires, and a 7 wire recepticle? I'm confused.

Check your owners manual, it's all in there, what each wire is for.

Okay, I bought the original feed line for when I borrowed a truck with the 7 pin connector. The pop-up only uses 6 of the wires, so the 7th one is irrelevant, as the extra two will be on the eight wire set up. I just need to know which wire is which so I can connect the right six to the 7 pin connector. |

But I'm open to the idea that it wasn't fine enough. Can you tell me what page it's on? I gotta confess I'm disappointed. This is the first time I've used this forum and I was expecting a bit of help. |

It is under the towing section, page 4-37 in mine
But I will save you the trouble of looking. Brown wire------Rear lamps Yellow wire------Left stoplamp and left turn signal Dark Green Wire--Right Stoplamp and Right turn signal White ( Heavy Gage)----Ground Light Green-----Back up lamps White (light gage)---Center High Mounted stoplamp Blue-------Auxiliary Circuit Orange-------Fused Auxiliary Circuit(this would be for fridge in trailer) This wires are found in the right rear fender well, where the jack is stored. |

Re: Pop Up Camper Wiring Help Needed
The blue wire is for electric brake usage. It connects to your electric brake controller (whatever brand you have) and your camper's electric brakes feed wire. You'll find the front end of that blue wire behind the driver's side front kick panel not hooked to anything yet. The big orange wire usually goes to your camper's main power supply wire which goes to the power converter inside and, hooked up, will allow you to charge your camper battery and operate your fridge, etc. while on the road.
The wiring color codes that are in your manual and that most manufacturers use are the industry standardized color codes for trailer wiring. Depending on the brand of your camper and if it's older than about 10 years the wiring on it might not be the standardized colors. Check your camper wiring diagram to tell what goes to what or contact the manufacturer. Otherwise do it the old fashioned way...use a multimeter and a battery to see what does what on your camper. Hope we all helped and relieved some stress over it for you. Last edited by aharbormoon; 10-31-2004 at 02:20 AM. |
