hilux ,4runner, 1988, rpm problem, no power after 1500rpm

did engine swap from a 2L-T 2.4Lt turbo to a 3L 2.8Lt non turbo, did all work myself, fired up first go, all is running good, its pulling good, but as soon as rpm hits 1500rpm , engine puffs out deisel smoke, and no power at all. Checked all wiring, vac lines, absolutely no smoke till engine gets to 1500rpm, also checked timing seems ok, please help

Check your fuel pressure and delivery volume. Compare what you find with the specifications. The Two engines may have different delivery needs.

Did you also change the ECM? Are they the same for the two engines? How about the HO2 sensors? Is one engine have A/F ratio sensors and the other HO2 sensors?

Check cam timing

Re: Re: hilux ,4runner, 1988, rpm problem, no power after 1500rpm

thx heaps, you put me in the right direction, these engines arent as complex as the newer models as has no O2 sensor, or air fuel ratio sensors. All injection is done by the diesel injector pump, which is rotary, any way, pressured up inlet side to injector pump and bang revs go past 1500rpm, no probs , remove pressure and back to same problem, so removed fuel adjuster, and seat of inlet was stuck on the needle. Hence little or no fuel getting through, now all is great after unseating it, was just stuck as engine had been sitting around a while. thx heaps Brian

You're welcome. Didn't catch the fact you were talking about a diesel. When you mentioned diesel smoke, I thought you were just being descriptive.
