95 TSI Dies In Reverse

When i shift into reverse (auto tranny) from a stop , my rpms shoot way down to about 500 or less. Sometimes the rpms will dive really low and then shut off. This sometimes happens on a hard stop after a turn while in drive. (like goin into a parking spot.) My check engine light is on. Does anyone have any Idea whats goin on here?

Thanks

Travis
