Compression
Brought my 2001 gsr with 58000 miles to the dealership to change brakes, and I asked them to check the compression. As it turns out its 150 150 115 90, which is very low. What is the stock compression on a gsr , my hanes manual says 240psi, is this correct? How much power was i losing by operatring at this low pressure. The funny thing is that i didnt notice too much of a difference. Also i did a quarter mile test about 1 week ago and got a 15.3,i usually get 15.2 but it was much hotter on this day. The dealer found that the loss of pressure was due to worn valve seats and valve seals. They removed the head which means that they have to put a new head gasket and re-surface the head, its all free since its still under warranty. My last question is: given that the car is under warranty should i accept the car back if the compression is any lower than 240 psi, also i was thinking that the piston rings might also be causing a loss of compression? What are your opinions?
